Food allergy and rheumatoid arthritis.

There is a marked increase in the production of food antibodies in the gut of patients with rheumatoid arthritis, which may be linked to the severity of their joint disease, according to Norwegian researchers. many patients with RA “often feel there is an association between food intake and rheumatoid disease severity”.

The researchers found that hypersensitivity reactions to certain foods promoted autoimmune reactions in the joints.
They concluded that
“patients complaining about a relationship between what they eat and the severity of their joint disease should therefore be considered seriously and followed up with regard to avoidance of foodstuffs potentially producing adverse joint reactions.”
