Autonomic dysfunction in fibromyalgia syndrome:
This review discusses the presence of additional symptoms besides chronic widespread pain and tenderness in fibromyalgia (FM) syndrome. Disabling fatigue and dizziness are often reported by patients with this chronic illness. Besides nonrestorative sleep, dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system (ANS), need to be considered for chronic fatigue.
Many important biological functions, such as heart rate, blood pressure, respirations, and bowel function, are tightly regulated by the ANS. Other factors associated with ANS are syncope, palpitations and dizziness. Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome seen during tilt table testing is defined as a heart rate increase of >30 beats/min after >3 min of standing upright.

LI Comment. There are two parts to the autonomic nervous system. The Parasympathetic System and the Sympathetic Nervous System. In the majority of individuals with fibromyalgia it is the Sympathetic Nervous System that is out of balance.
Each of the 12 components of the pathways2wellbeing system addresses the sympathetic nervous system imbalance. Our MORE Than Meditation six-week course has a specific focus on balancing an overactive sympathetic nervous system. If you have fibromyalgia reducing the sympathetic hyperactivity is fundamental for improved well-being.
