I’m a 28 year old woman who was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia (FM) almost 2 years ago after suffering with nerve pain and fatigue for over a year prior.
My un-managed FM lead to me to cease working as a Massage Therapist and from my university studies, where I was studying paramedics, requiring
me to pursue a less stressful life and career.
Since my diagnosis, I was no longer train with heavy weights in the gym on a regular basis, which was a passion of mine and have instead adapted
my training to include low impact and cardio training, including swimming and walking, and regular supervised training with my Exercise Physiologist.
I have also recently adopted an Low Carb, High Fat ketogenic diet, while also eliminating all grains and sugars from my diet.
Other lifestyle changes I have found to be of great benefit include, regular sleep with a routine bed time, herbal tea in the evening and magnesium and lavender baths 2-3 times a week. I have also found that a sensory deprivation float makes a large impact on ‘re-balancing’ if I find that stresses,
fatigue and nerve pain are heightened.
Since making these changes, and with the guidance and community involvement from my health care team ( including exercise physiologist, Dietitian and medical practitioners), I can now happily say that I have recovered completely from my FM.
I no longer experience chronic nerve pain, fatigue, emotional distress or bloating and discomfort.
I am continuing to live a low carb, high fat fasted ketogenic lifestyle, which my partner has also adopted, making meals and meal planning for the week much easier, as well as reducing our grocery bills significantly. We eat out much less and the cravings for sugary foods I used to have on a daily basis are no longer.
I am also continuing with low impact weight and cardiovascular training, while less strict on eliminating all higher impact spontaneous adventures!
I feel like I have my old life back, heightened energy levels and my moods remain stable.
A big thank you to the community of health care experts and my partner, who armed me with the knowledge to manage my FM and the encouragement
to continue even when it all got too overwhelming and I just wanted to sit on the couch for days on end.
Thank you.
