It is easy to forget that “we are what we think” and that our thoughts powerfully influence every aspect of our being, especially our health.
In this last year scientific research into the way our brains work have further confirmed this. We now know that chronic stress reduces the blood flow to the area of the brain called the pre frontal cortex. This is the area of the brain that we rely on to help us evaluate our situation in any moment and to make good decisions.
Reduced blood flow in this area of the brain leads to shrinkage of brain tissue and reduced effectiveness of this area of the brain.
The opposite effect occurs during meditation. Meditation is an effective was to reduce stress and maintain the function of this area of the brain.
