Having low energy is a major barrier to living a full and engaging life.
No energy to work.
No energy for family and/or friends.
No energy to exercise.
To gain more energy requires commitment and reversing those things in your life that are draining your energy.
Here are some simple first steps
Quality Sleep
Sleep is the most important lifestyle hack that contributes to energy and well-being.
If your energy is low, the chances that you are having enough sleep and good quality sleep are most likely close to zero.
Here are the key lifestyle strategies for sleep
Turn off screens 1 hour before bedtime
Go to sleep and wake up at the same time every day.
No caffeine after midday.
Sleep in a dark room or use an eye mask.
Expose your eyes to sunlight early in the day
Nutrition
Avoid food 2 hours before sleep
Keep the consumption of carbohydrates low during the day to avoid spikes in glucose.
An experiment in not having carbohydrates until later in the day.
Keep hydrated with fluid and minerals.
Experiment with not eating until midday. Each of us has a unique metabolism. For some, this is an energy boost.
Exercise
No matter where you are on the energy spectrum from being tired to having severe ME/CFS, exercise is of benefit and produces energy.
You need to work out what is the right amount of exercise for you. For those with ME/CFS post-exercise exacerbation of symptoms can be serious and many need guidance to find a safe level of movement/exercise.
Apply these strategies slowly and consistently until they become a habit.
